Rock-It! 4-12-09, Flo Rida right on top, Peas boom into Top 10

It was about this time last year that Florida native Flo Rida charged to the top of the pop chart with his first release, “Low” featuring T-Pain. Well, this week Flo Rida holds at #1 with his second #1 hit with “Right Round” featuring Ke$ha. Flo Rida also has the week’s biggest moving song with “Sugar” featuring Wynter which moves from 39-32. His new album, “R.O.O.T.S.” also debuts in the Top 10 this week on the album chart.

New York star Lady GaGa moves from 3-2 with “Poker Face” as she looks to score her second consecutive #1 smash. It’s the follow up to her #1 debut single “Just Dance”. “Poker Face” is currently in its 11th week as the #1 dance song in the land. That is the longest run at #1 since the Rock-It! Dance chart was revived in 2005. Lady GaGa also joins Colbie Caillat, Katy Perry and Leona Lewis as female stars who have watched their first two releases hit the Top 5 in the last year.

T.I. is up from 6-5 this week with “Dead And Gone” featuring Justin Timberlake. T.I. has now scored three Top 5 hits in a row with “Whatever You Like” which hit #3 last November and then “Live Your Life” featuring Rihanna which started 2009 at #1.

Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em peaked at #8 in 2007 with “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”. Many thought the rapper was doomed to be a one-hit wonder, but he has proved us wrong by returning to the #8 position last week with “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” featuring Sammie. This week the song holds at #7. He is also up from 82-72 this week with “Turn My Swag On”.

Riding a wave of digital sales in its first week of availability, the Black Eyed Peas are back in the Top 10 this week with a 12-8 move from “Boom Boom Pow”. It becomes their eighth Top 10 hit and first since peaking at #10 with “Pump It” in 2006. This is their biggest hit since 2005 when they reached #4 with “My Humps”.

Holding at #9 for a third week is Akon with “Beautiful” featuring Kardinal Offishall and Colby O’Donis. This is Akon’s 12th appearance in the Top 10 since his debut in 2004. His lone trip to #1 came in 2007 when he was featured on Gwen Stefani’s “The Sweet Escape”.

And holding at #10 is Jesse McCartney who makes his third career appearance with “How Do You Sleep” featuring Ludacris. This is his first Top 10 trip since going to #1 with the top song of 2008, “Leavin’”.

Three songs storm into the Top 20 this week. 41-year old actor/singer Jamie Foxx falls one notch short of having the biggest mover in the Top 40 for a second time in three weeks as he rockets from 23-17 with “Blame It” featuring T-Pain. This is the Texas native’s biggest hit has a lead artist. He has been to the Top 10 twice as featured artist including on Kanye West’s 2005 #1 hit “Gold Digger”. Florida rock quartet Shinedown scores their first Top 20 hit this week with “Second Chance” which moves from 22-18. Another Texas native is up from 21-19 this week. 27-year old Beyonce scores her 11th solo Top 20 hit with “Halo”. It’s the follow up to the #1 smash “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”.

Three songs debut in the Top 40 this week. California rock band The Offspring leads the charge with their first Top 40 hit in ten years. In 1999 they peaked at #20 with “Why Don’t You Get A Job?”. This week they are back asking another question, “Kristy, Are You Doing OK?” at #37. Cuban-American rapper Pitbull barks up from 67-38 with “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” to make his first Top 40 appearance. And 23-year old British singer-songwriter Lily Allen bows at #39 with “The Fear”.

Other chart information of note this week:
With “The Fear” debuting, this week’s top four dance songs are all in the pop Top 40.
The Offspring join Britney Spears, Beyonce and Justin Timberlake as artists on this week’s Top 40 who scored hits in the 1990s.
“I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz and “Let It Rock” by Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil Wayne tie for oldest song honors this week at 32 weeks.
