Rock-It! 4-19-09, Lady GaGa lands face up, Britney lucky #13

Lady GaGa has returned to the top of the pop chart with her second #1 hit of 2009. She becomes the first artist to have two chart toppers this year with “Poker Face” which jumps from 2-1. She spent two weeks at #1 in January with her first hit, “Just Dance”. The 22-year old New York sensation had already joined Colbie Caillat, Katy Perry and Leona Lewis as female vocalists to take their first two hits to the Top 5 in the past 12 months. Lady GaGa is the first to take both to #1.

T.I. is up from 5-3 this week with “Dead And Gone” featuring Justin Timberlake. His chart success has come in spite of his legal problems. T.I. will begin a one-year prison sentence due to possession of illegal firearms presumably this summer. He has been in house arrest since last year but has still managed three Top 3 hits: “Whatever You Like” and “Live Your Life” last year and now “Dead And Gone”.

18-year old Chicago rappr Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em peaked at #8 in 2007 with “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”. Many thought the rapper was doomed to be a one-hit wonder, but he has proven us wrong by returning to the Top 10 with “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” featuring Sammie. This week the song moves from 7-6. He is also up from 72-66 this week with “Turn My Swag On”.

The Black Eyed Peas are also up a notch this week from 8-7 with “Boom Boom Pow”. It is their eighth Top 10 hit and first since peaking at #10 with “Pump It” in 2006. This is their biggest hit since 2005 when they reached #4 with “My Humps”. Their new album “The END” is due out in June.

Up from 10-9 is Jesse McCartney who makes his third career Top 10 appearance with “How Do You Sleep” featuring Ludacris. This is the 22-year old New York star’s first Top 10 trip since going to #1 with the top song of 2008, “Leavin’”.

There is one new song in the Top 10 this week. Britney Spears climbs from 13-10 with “If U Seek Amy”. It becomes Britney’s 13th Top 10 hit and third from her current album “Circus”. The first two, “Womanizer” and “Circus” both reached #1.

There is one new song in the Top 20 this week. 25- year old electro-hop newcomer Kid Cudi is up from 23-19 with “Day ‘N’ Nite”. The Cleveland rapper is also in the Top 5 on the dance chart this week with the same tune.

Speaking of dance hits, this week’s biggest mover in the pop Top 40 is dance group 3Oh!3’s “Don’t Trust Me”. The former #1 club hit by the new band from Denver shoots up from 31-22 this week.

There is only one new song in the Top 40 this week. It is the second Top 40 hit from Kelly Clarkson’s new album “All I Ever Wanted”. Kelly is in at #37 with “I Do Not Hook Up”. The first release, “My Life Would Suck Without You” already spent three weeks at #1.

Other chart information of note this week:
Now this week’s Top 5 dance songs are in the pop Top 40, a rarity.
In addition to “Poker Face” hitting #1 this week, it holds at #1 on the Dance Chart for a Rock-it! record 12th week.
“I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz and “Let It Rock” by Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil Wayne tie for oldest song honors this week at 33 weeks.
